Digital Smart Pixel Array and Optical Assembly
Our research theme is to develop a new type of smart pixel called the digital smart pixel Array. Each pixel of the digital smart pixel has a photo-detector (PD), a light emitting diode (LED) and an arithmetic logic unit (ALU). The device structure of the digital smart pixel array is shown in Fig.1. We are also developing a free space optical interconnection system, which transmits a data from a digital smart pixel array to another digital smart pixel. The system in which digital smart pixel arrays are connected with free space interconnections realizes high speed parallel image processing.
